My company has been a member of the GLA for 20 years this year. I have personally been attending the GLA Annual General Meeting for 12 of those years. Although it might sound cliche, each time I attend, it feels more and more like a family. And what comes with family? Trust. This trust is everything for the GLA. There might be larger logistics and freight associations out there but we have elected to be a part of the GLA for this key reason (among others). The GLA’s size, due to its port exclusivity policy, for us, is a feature, not a bug. It is just so important to our organisation to know that we have partners in all corners of the world on whom we know we can rely for quality of service, communication, accountability and financial stability. To have a trusted extension of our brand through all of our fellow members has helped to generate and support countless business opportunities over the years. Because it is not such a large group, one is not a nameless face in a crowd. Instead, whether I’m developing a new and robust business opportunity, or I have a one-off oddball request in some faraway land, I know that I have a personal relationship with someone who can help – and that is simply huge.
