U.S. TARIFFS
Effective 04 MARCH 2025, the United States has announced additional tariffs of 25% on products of Canada or Mexico entering the U.S. except for a 10% tariff for energy products from Canada. Products excluded from the additional tariffs are donations of food, clothing and medicine intended to relieve human suffering as well as information materials.
The U.S. has announced an additional 10% tariff on products from China entering the U.S.. This is an amendment to the prior Executive Order issued on February 1st increasing the tariff from an additional 10% to now 20%.
In addition, the United States has announced additional 25% tariffs on Steel and Aluminium products and designated derivatives effective 12 MARCH 2025. Aluminium products from Russia, or those that have primary aluminium smelted or cast in Russia, will be subject to 200% tariffs.
CANADA TARIFFS
Canada intends to immediately impose 25% tariffs on nearly US$100 billion of imported U.S. goods in two waves. The first wave would target US$20 billon of goods such as alcohol, clothing, and household appliances. The second wave, which will emerge in about 3 weeks, will target about US$90 billion of U.S. goods.
MEXICO TARIFFS
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced 04 MAR 2025 that her government plans to respond to the U.S. tariffs with its own tariff and non tariff measures starting Sunday.
CHINA TARIFFS
China has imposed retaliatory tariffs on U.S. agricultural goods and taken other measures against American companies. Beijing also filed a lawsuit with the World Trade Organisation.

The Trump Administration announced on Saturday, February 1st, that increased tariffs would go into effect for all products with origins from Canada, Mexico and China. The announcement was for 25% rate increase for Canada products, 25% rate increase for Mexico products, and 10% rate increase (on top of current increased tariffs) for China. The announcement noted the increases would go into effect on February 4th.
However, as of late this afternoon, the increases for Canada and Mexico are being postponed for 30 days based on discussion/negotiations today between the countries. The increase for China products remains in place and begins on February 4th. China origin (country of origin) cargo loaded onto a vessel at the port of loading, or in transit on the final mode of transport, before February 1, 2025, and if entered before March 7, 2025 is exempt from the increase.
